AFCON 2023:Nigeria and Congo DR Secure Semi Final Ticket

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are the only side ranked above any other side left in the competition.

Having scale through the Round of 16, the Nigeria’s Team faced Angola in their Quarterfinal bout with determination.

The Eagles were pretty better on the ball more than their Counterparts from Angola and with Simon’s Assists, Lookman got his 3rd goal of AFCON 2023 in the 41st minute to put Nigeria 1-0 ahead. Although Angola played harder and could only hit the wood works as they failed to equalized. Osimhen’s 75th minute strike could have made it 2-0 for Nigeria but was ruled out for offside after the VAR intervention. It all ended 1-0 in favor of Nigeria.

In another venue, Congo DR were the better side to pick the semifinal ticket after beating Guinea by 3-1. Guinea opened scoring first in the 20th minute from the Penalty spot after he was fouled by Chancel Mbemba but 7 minutes later Mbemba equalized to make it 1-1 as the half ende in a draw.

Luckily for Congo DR, Wissa’s brilliant penalty kick added another goal to Congo while Masuaku completed the havoc by scoring Congo’s 3rd goal 8 minutes from time to make it 3-1. Congo eliminated Guinea when many thought it would be the other way round.

Nigeria will be waiting to face Cape Verde or South Africa in their Semi Final clash while Congo DR shall lock horns with Mali or Ivory Coast.
