Commonwealth Games: Nigeria Holds Drug-Abuse Seminar For Secondary Schools

Under the auspices of the Commonwealth Games Federation and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), we wish to inform you that the Commonwealth Games, Nigeria (CGN), will organise a programme on the negative effects of drug abuse on Secondary students.
The event will be held at the Olympafrica Centre in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos State, on Monday, March 10, 2025.
A statement released by Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer of the NOC, explained that the objective of this programme is to uphold the fundamental values of the Commonwealth by promoting unity, equity, and youth empowerment.
It also aims to raise awareness of key global issues affecting our communities while serving as a strategic platform to address social vices and drive positive societal change.
The Secretary-General of the NOC. Tunde Popoola emphasises that the programme on drug abuse would be used to address one of the social vices plaguing our society.
It will also promote social interaction among the students, allowing them to meet other school students and learn more about the activities carried out by CGN.
The programme is open to students aged 14 to 17 in both public and private schools.
Not less than 15 schools have been invited to participate in the seminar.
Youths from Amuwo Odofin using the Olympafrica will also participate in the programme.
A renowned Medical Doctor, Dr Adebukola Bojuwoye, will facilitate the programme and will educate the students and other participants on the negative effects of drug use in communities and how sports can be used as a corrective measure to address these issues that are prevalent in society.
The students participating in the programme will receive branded T-shirts, a certificate of participation, and one volleyball, basketball, or football each for the 15 schools and football for the youth using the Olympafrica Centre.
Refreshments would be served to the participants during the event.
The programme is expected to begin at 10 am and to terminate at 5 pm.
The President of the NOC, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel will declare the event.

1000 pupils participate In Maiden Hon. Lanre Okunola Basketball Clinic In Lagos

The much talked about Maiden edition of Honorable Lanre Okunola primary schools basketball clinic dunks off Friday at the indoor sports Hall of the National Stadium surulere Lagos
The clinic in conjunction with Impact kiddies sports project and Lagos State SUBEB is to train and select talented basketball players who will fly the county’s flag at the world youth basketball Championship in Matera Italy this year
Over 1000 children from different school across Lagos trained under the watchful eyes of top basketball coaches in Lagos
Former Basketball player, Honorable Lanre Okunola who is bankrolling the clinic commended the children for their determination to succeed
Lanre Okunola who was represented by legislative Aid one Fola Raheem assures to continue to support the growth of the Slamming and Dunking game in Nigeria
He adds that as a Former athlete he understands and knows the impact of sports to the life of children, the community and the world at large
” The essence of governance is about growth and development for the people , this cannot be achieved if we don’t show interest from their yound stage for them to grow into world stars and become worthy ambassadors for the country in sports and future great earners for themselves ” He said
The selected players will undergo further training in readiness for the task ahead in Italy in June this year
As part of its mission to develop and showcase exceptional young talent, impact kiddies sports project is committed to selecting and training outstanding youth basketball players from Lagos State to represent Nigeria on the global stage.
This event marks a significant step in the journey to the World Youth Games.

Nigeria will compete in the under 15 boys and girls and under 12 mixed category at the world youth basketball championship in Matera Italy.

World Youth Basketball Championship:32 Players Commence Preparations In Lagos

Nigeria basketball coach, Joel Adams has assured that Nigeria will give a good account of themselves at THE world youth basketball championship billed for Italy.
32 players who made the final selection from a screening exercise will undergo further training in readiness for the games in Matera ,July this year.
The selection process was held at the unilag sports Center Lagos.
The selection exercise organised by impact kiddies basketball project saw over 50 children from different parts of Lagos showcase their skills in the slamming and dunking game to stand a chance to represent Lagos State and Nigeria in Italy.
The programme is In association with subeb,Lagos state school sports and the Lagos state sports commission.
The selected players will take part in the first honorable lanre okunola primary school basketball clinic.
The one day tournament which is billed for March 13th 2025 at the indoor sports Hall of the national stadium surulere Lagos, is open to subeb selected schools in Lagos mainland, surulere and shomolu.

Nigerian Cyclist Samuel Fasema Completes Epic Lagos to Maiduguri Ride

The Nigeria cycling federation has praised the exploits of ex nigerian cyclist Samuel fasema who rode from Lagos to Maiduguri and back for not only promoting peace but also promoting the enormous benefits of the sport
Samuel Fasema rode for peace and unity, against drug abuse and for renewed hope this year the ride to Maiduguri is his 2nd having embarked on such journey in 2024 to Benue state
Fasema who arrived Lagos on Saturday February 7 was joined by team mates led by chairman of ft cycle care cycling Club femi Thomas at Berger where they rode through ojota, Anthony, palm groove, stadium , CMS, third mainland bridge and terminated at the clubs office in fadeyi to the warm embrace of families, friends and well wishers
Samuel fasema who has passion for cycling speaks on how the journey went and his next project
“I thank God I was able to achieve this, it was easy some never believed I would be able to ride to Maiduguri and back but I did. Am looking at going a step forward by registering for the Guiness book of word record soon ” He said

Captain ft cycle care cycling Club, Francis Agbo, a team mate of Samuel fasema expressed delight for successful mission while also calling on the corporate world support the cyclist with ambassadorial award to serve as a beacon of hope to athletes who go the extra mile in showcasing nigeria in a good light
The 19 days ride on bicycle covered a distance of 3,776.03 kilometers
