After a thrilling week of action in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Spain and The Netherlands secured their first-ever titles at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2025.

50,000 fans attended the event during the week and were treated to historic moments throughout the competition, culminating in an unmissable final day and two fantastic finals.

The men’s side of the tournament culminated in an epic contest as Spain took on Switzerland, where hot shooting from beyond the arc for Spain saw them set the tone early, with Switzerland finding foul trouble.

A big step-back two from Diego De Blas gave Spain a five-point (10-5) cushion with three minutes played, and the 24-year-old was everywhere during this final as he contributed big moments on both the offensive and defensive sides.

Nailing his fourth two-pointer of the game with 2:21 to play, De Blas put Spain within a point of victory before his teammate Iván Aurrecoechea sealed the win as emphatically as anybody has ever secured a 3×3 World Cup win with a thunderous dunk notching a 21-17 win for Spain and their first-ever 3×3 World Cup title.

In the women’s final, the fairytale journey of Mongolia faced one final hurdle in securing the 3×3 World Cup victory for the first time ever, as the top-seeded Dutch stood in their way.

The best team in the world with the best player – Noortje Driessen – showed why they’re worthy of both titles from the outset as their suffocating defence kept Mongolia honest and prevented the home side from getting hot from the perimeter, which had been a feature of their run to this point in the competition.

A step-back two-pointer from Driessen with three minutes to play took the gap to eight and gave the hosts a mountain to climb, but Mongolia’s first two-pointer of the game with 90 seconds remaining gave the home crowd hope.

The Dutch remained calm in face of the pressure, however, and held on to secure 3×3 World Cup title for the first time.

FIBA has announced that Mongolia will host the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2027, from March 31 to April 4, in the heart of the capital, Ulaanbaatar, where the rise of 3×3 basketball shows no signs of slowing down.
Mongolia’s hosting of Asia’s biggest 3×3 event follows a recent landmark moment for Mongolian basketball, with more than 50,000 passionate fans turning up in Sukhbaatar Square for an unforgettable FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2025. The Mongolian women’s team thrilled local supporters with a remarkable run to the final, earning nationwide praise and recognition. Days after the event, the team was received by the President of Mongolia, Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, and awarded an honorary athlete distinction in honour of their achievement.

“Mongolia continues to prove itself as a true world-class hub for 3×3 basketball,” said FIBA 3×3 Managing Director Alex Sanchez. “The fans, the atmosphere, and the quality on the half-court make Mongolia the ideal host for the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2027. We are excited to return to Ulaanbaatar, ten years after Mongolia made history by staging the first-ever FIBA Asia Cup in 2017.”

This latest announcement marks another milestone in Mongolia’s impressive journey as a leader in 3×3 basketball development in Asia. Mongolia has continued to strengthen its reputation as a trusted and passionate host of major international 3×3 events such as the FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup 2019, the FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup 2024, annual FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series stop and FIBA 3×3 World Tour. The recent FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2025 showcased once again Mongolia’s incredible passion for 3×3 basketball and its ability to deliver world-class urban sporting events.

The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation has successfully hosted WT Level 2 (Higest Taekwondo Coaching Cadre Course) with about 40 taekwondo coaches drawn from different states and institutions across Nigeria. 

The World Taekwondo designated Tarik Benradi from Morocco as the Course Resource person. Tarik Benradi doubles as the Chairman African Taekwondo Union Referees Department. 

The course was declared open by the Chairman National Sports Commission  Shehu Dikko. He was accompanied by senior officers of the NSC like the Director FEAD and many aides. 

President Nigeria Taekwondo federation, Tayo Popoola was grateful for the rich support of the National Sports Commission.

The course covered core Taekwondo Coaching areas like Team Management, Athletes Psychology, Drug Education, Coaches Technical Knowledge of taekwondo contest rules etc. Physical, theoretical and visual means were employed to pass down instructions during the course.

All participants took an examination at the end of the course. 

The Closing Ceremony was witnessed by the President NOC Engnr Habu Gumel. 

Gumel promised to support the NTF if the next of such course could be hosted by Nigeria. 

Nigeria will be hosting 2 World Taekwondo tournaments in August and September this year. Which are signs that Nigeria is gradually coming back to the taekwondo world map
